AI-Enabled Reliability and Emissions Reduction – Aramco Case Study

Operational Excellence Goal: Increase production while reducing operational cost and emissions intensity in a large-scale energy operation.

The Journey:
Aramco’s North Ghawar Oil Producing Complex launched a Fourth Industrial Revolution strategy to improve reliability, production intelligence and environmental performance. The operation deployed more than 65 digital solutions, including advanced analytics, AI-powered digital twins and generative AI tools.

The objective was to improve performance across a complex asset base, not just optimise one isolated process. By using digital twins and analytics, the site could improve asset reliability, support faster decisions and build stronger technical capability among younger talent. This made improvement part of how the operation was managed, monitored and sustained. The result was measurable. Oil production increased by 8.44%, while Scope 1 and 2 emissions reduced by 8.21% per barrel of oil equivalent. For operational excellence, this case shows how advanced technology can support both productivity and environmental intensity improvements when deployed through a structured operational strategy.
