Operational Excellence Goal: Move a manufacturing site towards climate neutrality while increasing throughput and reducing energy intensity.
The Journey:
Siemens Fürth set out to improve sustainability without sacrificing production growth. The site used Siemens technologies and a structured sustainability strategy to improve energy management, reduce emissions and strengthen circularity through internal repair loops.
The improvement journey included better energy transparency, intelligent energy systems and a cross-functional approach to operational change. This allowed the site to treat sustainability as part of daily performance management, not as a separate initiative. The operational question was simple: how can the site produce more while consuming less energy per unit of output?
The results were strong. Siemens reported 64% energy savings per throughput, more than 70% reduction in CO₂e emissions per throughput, and a 145% increase in manufacturing output. The Fürth site also plans to become climate neutral by 2026, ahead of the wider corporate pledge. This case is a strong example of operational excellence because it links productivity, sustainability and system-level improvement in one measurable transformation.
